Like all your financial accounts and services, you should protect your PayPal account with a strong password.

A good password should have at least eight characters (and the longer and more complex, the better), with a mix of upper- and lower-case letters, numbers, and symbols.

Here's how to change your password and strengthen it to keep your PayPal secure.

How to change your PayPal password

1. Open PayPal.com in a web browser. You can only change your password on the website, not in the mobile app.

2. Click the Settings icon (the gear at the top right of the window).

How to reset your PayPal password if you can't log in

If you can't log into your PayPal account — maybe because you forgot your password — you can reset it.

1. Open PayPal.com in a web browser.

2. Click "Log In" at the top right of the screen.

3. Click "Having trouble logging in?"

Follow the instructions. You can either enter your email address and click "Next" to get a password reset email, or if you don't know what email address is associated with your account, click "Forgot your email?"

On the next page, enter up to three email addresses you might have used with the account and click "Next" to get a reset email.
