'The Walking Dead' just shocked everyone with a huge divergence from the comics

Warning: There are spoilers ahead if you have not watched Sunday's episode of "The Walking Dead."

Creator Robert Kirkman wasn't kidding when he said that anyone could die this season on "The Walking Dead." 

The AMC hit just shocked fans with a huge unexpected death in the third episode of the new season.

In the final 20 minutes of "The Walking Dead," Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Nicholas (Michael Traynor) found themselves in a dire situation as they were pitted against a horde of zombies. 

Backed up against a fence, Nicholas took his own life falling into a pit of zombies as he took Glenn down with him. 

Viewers then watched as walkers slowly tore Glenn apart to his slow demise.

The death came as a huge shock to everyone.

Some fans refuse to believe Glenn is actually dead.

Sure, we see the walkers have at it, digging into some person's body, but maybe that was Nicolas' body the zombies were tearing apart and not Glenn's. 

Others are pointing out that Glenn also didn't pop up in the memorial of "The Walking Dead" aftershow "Talking Dead," which shows every character death in an episode.

The scene was especially shocking for long-term fans because Glenn comes to a much different end in Kirkman's comic series.  

In issue 100, Glenn is killed off in a much more brutal fashion at the hands of a Walking Dead villain we haven't seen yet on the series.  

On "The Walking Dead" aftershow, "Talking Dead," showrunner Scott Gimple said this won't be the last we see of the character saying we will see some version of Glenn again.

Many are taking that to mean that Glenn's wife Maggie could be pregnant.
